Bad Blogger

It has been forever since my last REAL posting. I have to get back into the swing of things with my blogging. I don't have too much to blog about right now, but I can give a quick rundown on some things I have been thinking.

1. As my calling, I work with the deacons. The whole scouting thing comes along with that territory. I am not sure how I feel about it. Having never been a big scouter, but seeing others awarded their eagle, I am not sure what true value it adds. What do you think?

2. There is a new movie coming out about the Mountain Meadow Massacre. It is a major motion picture starring Jon Voigt (sp). From what I have read, it paints a pretty ugly picture of the event and even implicates Brigham Young in the decision to kill the immigrants. Are you planning to see it?

3. I am currently reading in Helaman ch. 10 and 11. Read about the issues Nephi addresses WITHIN the church! Then ask yourself how you can avoid being a disappointing follower of the Savior.

4. I want to get into photography (no Dad, not pornography, that is still off limits, so don't tell mom that I said it is okay for you to try it). I think it would be cool.

5. I just bought a road bike so I can train for a triathlon. I know that sounds crazy, but I really want to do it. Yesterday I took a short ride (5 miles) and it was a ton of fun. Those hills that don't look steep sure do FEEL steep on a bike! Have any of you ever wanted to do a triathlon?

6. My youngest brother Steve is getting ready to enter law school. I am excited for him and am curious to hear about what he learns. He is going to be attending Texas Tech and my hope is he will move to Dallas when he graduates. We would love to have he and Marissa here with us.

That's about it for now.

Here is a poem I wrote for your reading pleasure:

Scabs

You will find them on their knees.
As boys grow they fall,
Constantly running and jumping,
Playing in life’s playground
Without a care in the world
In front of them
Lies manhood
Waiting to teach them
Of life’s other playground
Constantly running and jumping
As men grow they fall,
Leaving scabs on their souls.
You will find them on their knees.

Nothing like a repentant blogger...

Let me answer some of your questions:
1) I'm > 30 years old and still occasionally I get asked about my Eagle Scout award in job interviews.

2) No way! When was the last time anybody wanted to see anything Jon Voight was in?

5) Yes, but I'm afraid I'd drown.

Good to see your blogging again. My brothers and I all had great experiences going through the Scouting program. Our Mother was key in that she made sure we were always able to make it to the activities and she always helped us work on our merit badges. Our Father helped us at a very young age to love the outdoors and most important of all, our Scout Leaders were very committed to our entire troop attaining our Eagle as well as Duty to God. Scouting and it's values had a great impact on me. I regret that we didn't get You and Matt and Steve more involved, but it didn't seem to be the thing to do in South Carolina.
I'm waiting for the Movie about the Mormon's being persecuted, having their Land and homes and property stohlen as well as the murders, prior to Mtn Meadows. It will probably be a long wait.
I've never been up to the challenge of a triathalon.
Great Poem!I knew you were a "Metro", but I didn't realize
you were such an artsy, fartsy...

At least you have a blog and attempt to entertain us on a regular basis. My blog is still in my head and has yet to be transmitted to electronic format. Attaining your eagle is a great accomplishment and teaches young men important values to live by. Somehow I didn’t attain mine and regret it (I think it was because when I did go I ended up playing b-ball every mutual night then getting kicked out of the church). Wait, the question should be asked who wouldn't want to see Jon Voight? Did you see him in Anaconda with J-low. I am still trying to figure out why he didn't when an oscar. My triathlon competition will be composed of the three following events; walking to the freezer to get some mint chocolate chip ice cream, eating the ice cream, and then seeing how long I can stay on the couch before Kaitlan yells at me or Hailey comes begging to play. This is quite a physical and mental challenge. I am currently in training on a daily basis. Steve, good luck at law school.

For the eagle scout thing..You never hear say, "I wish I did not earn my eagle." It seems like kids have all sorts of time for leisure activities so why not make them accomplish something. It may not be a huge deal if you do not receive it in life, but people are always impressed by it. I hope my boys get it.

I was able to go to a court of Honor in Missouri when Kamron was serving as YM pres. and it was really cool. I was so proud of the boy getting his Eagle. I think it is definately a positive experience for a boy to work hard at something and in turn accomplish something by receiving a title he can carry the rest of his life.

I'm definately not seeing the movie. I wish I never saw the PBS special.

"We desire all young men to strive to earn the Eagle Scout and Duty to God Awards. We desire all young women to strive to earn the Young Womanhood Recognition. As youth work on these goals, they will develop skills and attributes that will lead them to the temple and prepare them for a lifetime of service to their families and the Lord" (First Presidency letter, Sept. 28, 2001).

"It is one of the choicest experiences in my life to serve in and participate in Scouting, which I have done for almost seventy years" ("When l Was Called as Scoutmaster," Boy Scout Satellite Broadcast, Salt Lake City, Feb. 14, 1988).
